The high point of the concert was the appearance of the soloist Amir Katz, an Israeli who has been based in Germany for many years. Chopin, as is well known, is a composer who was open to many different interpretations and in my opinion, Katz’s rendition of Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto was a model of good taste. His trademarks: healthy sound, not even a single moment of sentimental sticky indulgence, but rather Chopin that marches in the path of Mozart and Beethoven. This refreshing attitude stood out even more in the encore that Katz played – Grande Valse Brillante opus 18 – a perfect choice.
